A Music Librarian is responsible for organizing and maintaining music library holdings, providing access to patrons, and assisting with reference and research. A Music Librarian may also be responsible for cataloging new acquisitions, managing interlibrary loan requests, and supervising support staff. The primary goal of a Music Librarian is to provide access to musical scores, recordings, and other resources held in the library. To this end, Music Librarians must be familiar with a variety of musical styles and genres. They must also be knowledgeable about the various formats in which music can be stored, such as books, CDs, vinyl records, cassettes tapes, and digital files. In addition to providing access to resources, Music Librarians often assist patrons with reference and research queries.
