A Data Privacy Officer (DPO) is a person who works within an organization to ensure that data privacy and protection processes are in place for the handling of personal information. The DPO’s job is to review current policies, procedures and systems; recommend changes if needed; provide training on relevant laws and regulations; monitor compliance with those laws and regulations; investigate any suspected breaches or violations of data privacy rights; produce reports related to the use of personal information by the organization, including how its collected, stored, used, shared and destroyed/deleted. They also act as a liaison between employees and law enforcement or regulators when necessary. The DPO’s primary responsibility is ensuring that both internal stakeholders like staff members who process sensitive personal data as well as external parties such customers comply with all applicable local laws regarding their processing activities. This includes understanding GDPR standards (General Data Protection Regulation), PIPEDA provisions (Personal Information Protection & Electronic Documents Act) along with other assorted region-specific guidelines governing proper data management practices while implementing industry best practice approaches in compliance matters At its core this role involves monitoring how an organization interacts with customer/end user private information -- be it demographic info like names + emails addresses or payment details -- plus making sure said interaction adheres to stated internal protocol designed around protecting said ostensibly confidential material from unauthorized access attempts or malicious intent driven exploitation schemes while conforming to all applicable legal requirements resultant from different geographical jurisdictions where business operations find themselves being conducted under
