A sound assistant generally works in a New York City film or video production set, under the direction of the sound recordist. He or she will primarily be spraying microphone clips, running cable, setting up audio rigs and stands/booms required for field recordings as well as location-based recordings such as foley stages. . Ensuring that all wireless microphones are functioning properly before each show

. Taking note of any feedback issues during rehearsals/performances

Checking & stocking batteries for all handheld mics

Assist with load-in and set up of props related to mic work

Help break down miking positions post show

Drive rental van(s), if need be, loaded with gear

Be able coordinate additional crew hired day-of-show as necessary

Make sure there is always at least two staff backstage

Manage stock

Train new ASMs in your position

Serve as ASM when necessary
