The salary of a lawyer varies greatly depending on the experience, expertise and location. Generally speaking, junior lawyers (also known as associates) usually start with salaries between $60-90K per year in larger cities or metropolitan areas. As they gain experience and move up to become mid-level attorneys (or senior associates), their annual earnings can range from around $100K-$150K. Experienced attorneys who have worked for several years in prestigious law firms may make anywhere from $200K to over half a million dollars annually depending on the type of practice area they specialize in and if they are partners at the firm or not.
